Effect of environmental parameters on the content and sugar composition of sulfated polysaccharides in some tropical seagrass

Seagrasses are a paraphyletic group of marine angiosperms that evolved three to four times from land plants and returned the sea. Halophila ovalis, Thalassia hemprichii Enhalus acoroides (Hydrocharitaceae) species can occur in wide salinity ranges. Sulfated polysaccharides (SPs) comprise complex macromolecules with many critical biological functions. We assume SP may play role salt tolerance seagrass. In this study, seagrass collected both rainy dry seasons fields were analyzed determine total contents different functional groups SP. Quantification was done by photometric assays. High-performance anion-exchange chromatography Pulsed Electrochemical Detection (HPAEC) determined SPs. The results indicated higher present at salinities environmental temperatures. percent SPs following order: glucose > galactose arabinose mannose rhamnose fucose. order is not between two seasons.
